Say hello to the world

I am excited to tell you all about a new venture we’ve taken on. Shalista Photography has teamed up with St. Mary’s Hospital. We will be offering all newborns a 30 minute session and a free 5×7 print. This must be done within 4 weeks of birth. And, if you had a baby in the PAST 4 weeks, I will still honor this.. These will show up in your new parent packets in the next week or so. I am very excited to meet all the new babies! Newborns are one of my very favorite subjects, if not thee favorite. I love them because they are so tiny and fresh, the younger the better too. They are squishy and wrinkled and smell so good.

We will also have some prints displayed in the waiting area, so be watching for those in the future!

30 Posts in 30 days.

I hereby promise to make at least one blog post a day, per day, for the next 30 days.

Thinking of something to say everyday might be hard to do.

Lets see if I can do it!!!

angels

We had so much fun with the angels in the studio. There are so many cute kids! It’s hard to pick who to blog. Maybe I’ll add more later.

“It’s the King’s Day”

So Somer says.

She’s 6, so hearing what she has to say about the world is always enlightening, usually entertaining, and sometimes completely and totally moving.

Last night in our normal routine of things I say “You need to get in the tub since you have school tomorrow.” She reminded me she did NOT have school and she “could stay up as late as she wanted” (See, she is pretty funny, isn’t she?)

So then she says “It’s the King’s day, so there’s no school.” And then she tells me a story:

There was a woman once that didn’t want to stand on a bus and she sat down and she got in a lot of trouble, so the King was fighting for her to make sure she didn’t have to stand. Then he died, so they made a day for him.

Now, being 6, it doesn’t occur to her to think of the reasons why the lady had to stand, just that she had to. Somer never once mentioned that the lady was black, or that at one time in history it was ok for these things to happen and normal for them to happen, and I don’t think she really understood the gravity of the story she was telling me, but she did know that it was bad what happened to her and the King was good for helping her.

In the most elementary of ways, Somer reminded me of what today is all about. :)

Bridal Show wrap up.

We had a fantastic time at the bridal show yesterday. I have only done one other show 3 years ago here in Pierre. I got to meet some other photographers, and also say hi to other photographer friends. My sister said “How can you talk to the competition?!” and I explained to her, that having other photographers as friends was important for a lot of reasons. It’s nice to have someone to talk to that shares the same business and experience with you, and it’s great to have a network of people to call your friends. I know if something bad happened, I have core group that I could call on who would cover my back, just as I would theirs if they needed me. There are more than enough weddings to go around, so it’s to all our benefit to get along and learn, motivate and inspire each other.

Thank you THANK YOU to Amber, Courtney, Shelia, Amanda and Hilarie for working the booth with me, and extra extra thanks to Courtney who was there from 9 am to tear down! You guys are the best!

Here’s a shot of the booth.

Mike Black says it wasn’t the ‘coolest’ booth, and I have to agree. StudioBlu had a really cool booth. I think mine was a close 2nd though!

We had a lot of people stop and watch the slideshow. So, in case you didn’t have time, or it was too crowded, here is the show in entirety.

Voicemail/Email Problem FYI

We discovered this week that we are not getting all our voicemails. The service we use actually emails the voicemail messages to us. I am getting a huge delay, 24-48 hours on receiving emails, therefore I am not getting voicemails either, and some messages are not coming at all. I had over 60 known messsages when we returned from Florida and We are trying to figure it out why we are not getting everything. If you’ve called and left a message, we will return it as soon as we get it. I apologize for any inconvience.

If you are trying to schedule for the Angels Limited Edition, please feel free to do so online at shalista.brownbookit.com
