Thanksgiving Family Portrait Marathon!
mondays and road trips
If you’ve stopped by the studio on a Monday, we are closed. I get a lot of questions about that, so let me explain the reasons. I work every Saturday. Sometimes for HOURS, and hours, and hours. For example, this past Saturday started on Friday. Lynsey and I left Pierre at 9:30 to trek to Nebraska to shoot Theresa and Everett’s wedding. It’s a 7 hour drive. ![]()
So, we drove 3 hours, crashed at a hotel halfway, then headed out at 7 am to be ready to start at 11:30. We got there, scoped out the town, made it to the wedding, shot for 8 hours+, then drove 7 hours straight back home. We got in about 2 am on Sunday. Both dedicated to being home for Father’s Day, but we were exhausted. Unfortunately for Lynsey, she works a “real” job during the week, so she rests up good on Sunday (I hope)
Me, I do laundry, clean house, whatever, and Monday I hang with the kiddos. I try to avoid the studio, and we try to go do fun things together, but I take Mondays off.
It’s one of the parts about this job that’s not so fun, but the other perks make up for it.
It’s a good thing Lynsey and I have so much fun together.

Nebraska might be lacking a lot of things, (I did live there so I do speak from experience) but they also have a lot of good things, like Amigos. Amigos is like Mexican Food Heaven. It’s greasy and far from gourmet, but damn it’s SO GOOD. A few years ago, ok, like 13 or something, I worked at Amigos in Norfolk, NE (yes, when I lived there) It was my first real job. That really helped us get through the first hour or so of the drive home on Saturday. The girl working the window thought we were crazy, but that’s ok, we kind of are.

Capital City Children’s Choir
We had the whole choir - 50+ kids - in the studio for a shoot on Tuesday. I am sure the neighbors were wondering what was going on. I had a great time meeting the kids. They are great listeners and even better singers!
Here’s a favorite from the fun stuff at the end.

Mother’s Day 2008
Thank you so much to everyone that came this past Sunday. There were almost 400 people! I know the line was long and there was a wait. I hope that I see you again next time. I cannot thank you enough for coming in. It means a lot to the moms, to me, and I hope to the ACS and every one who’s lives have been touched by this.
Bridal Show wrap up.
We had a fantastic time at the bridal show yesterday. I have only done one other show 3 years ago here in Pierre. I got to meet some other photographers, and also say hi to other photographer friends. My sister said “How can you talk to the competition?!” and I explained to her, that having other photographers as friends was important for a lot of reasons. It’s nice to have someone to talk to that shares the same business and experience with you, and it’s great to have a network of people to call your friends. I know if something bad happened, I have core group that I could call on who would cover my back, just as I would theirs if they needed me. There are more than enough weddings to go around, so it’s to all our benefit to get along and learn, motivate and inspire each other.
Thank you THANK YOU to Amber, Courtney, Shelia, Amanda and Hilarie for working the booth with me, and extra extra thanks to Courtney who was there from 9 am to tear down! You guys are the best!
Here’s a shot of the booth.

Mike Black says it wasn’t the ‘coolest’ booth, and I have to agree. StudioBlu had a really cool booth. I think mine was a close 2nd though!
We had a lot of people stop and watch the slideshow. So, in case you didn’t have time, or it was too crowded, here is the show in entirety.
Limited Edition: Angels
Our Winter Wonderland was such an overwhelming success, we are going to try it again.
