PORTRAIT & WEDDING BLOG.
OUR JOURNAL OF OVER 15 YEARS OF PHOTOGRAPHY.
One of the best parts of my job is seeing families grow up. I photographed the two littlest guys when they were just newborns. Check out LEVI here. poor Lucas must be on my old, long gone, blog.
Nice seeing you again guys!
Aisley stopped by for her 3 month photos. She really didn't like the idea, but I think we got a few to make mom happy. :)
CASSIE AND BRANDON AUGUST 25, 2012

How did you meet? Brandon and I met at work, but didn't officially talk to each other/or get to know each other until we ran into each other out with our friends one night.
Brandon's best feature? Brandon's best feature is his integrity and strength. I know I can always count on him.
Katie and Issac are one of the sweetest couples. You could see in Issac's eyes how much he adores Katie. I was blessed to be part of their celebration in Brookings.

What was the most memorable moment of your day?
Isaac: Seeing my future wife in her wedding dress for the first time. (and it wasn't covered in feathers!!)
Funniest memory from your wedding day? The best man and Isaac's cousin re-enacting the entire Greece soundtrack at the dance.
If you could do it all over, would you change anything? No, unless we could dial back the wind a little :)
Where did you go on your honeymoon? TBD.
Any advice to engaged couples? Katie: Don't sweat the small stuff. On the day of your wedding, they are just the details, not the moments.
We had a great time photographing Amy and Brett's wedding last month. It was really windy and quite cold, but Amy was a determined bride and insisted we were going outside. I have to give her props, because a lot of people would have just stayed inside! We did all the family portraits at Wall Lake Park. It wasn't windy at all and the cloud cover made photos easy! After the sweet ceremony, we made a few stops around Sioux Falls. We finished up at the El Riad Shrine Mosque.

Virginia and AlphonseOctober 6, 2012
Virginia: International Adoption Specialist Hometown: Emery, SD Alphonse: Quality Engineer Hometown: Canton, SD
How did you meet? Alphonse was out doing his guy thing with a few friends and Virginia was out doing her girl thing with a few friends one weekend night in Sioux Falls. Although Alphonse jokes he “picked up” Virginia with his striking good looks, she really was the first to get the conversation going! Several weeks later, our adventure as a couple officially began.
First date: Dinner & the movie The Crazies
When did you get engaged? We got engaged over New Years 2012. We’ve gone to Deadwood the past few years over New Years to celebrate with friends. Last year on New Years, Alphonse told Virginia he loved her for the first time. This year for New Years, Alphonse took Virginia to that same spot and asked her to be with him forever as his wife.
What was the first thing you noticed about Virginia? Her beautiful smile and sweet personality; she was very easy to talk with!
Describe Virginia in three words: That’s tough! She’s educated, passionate, and always considerate.
When did you know he was the one? I think within just a short time of being together I knew this guy was going to be around for a long time. Alphonse allows me to just be ‘me’ and accepts and loves me for that. Maybe it was after our first fight ☺, or after our first crazy adventure to Apple River, or after he took care of me when I was convinced I was dying of the flu, or after he first told me he loved me…somewhere in there I knew!
Describe Alphonse in three words: Only 3?! ☺ He is intelligent, easy-going, and strong in so many ways.
Is there anything fun or different you are doing at your wedding? To be determined ☺
Jennie and Andrew got hitched a few weeks ago. We had a ton of fun with them and their wedding party. The day was a bit gloomy and rain threatened all day, but it held out and we were able to make amazing images!

What was the most memorable moment of your day?
Jennie: Being announced Mr. and Mrs. Andrew McNamara for the first time - made everything seem so real!
Andrew: Seeing Jennie for the first time!
Where did you go on your honeymoon? We will be going to Sandals resort in Antigua in November 2012.
Any advice to engaged couples? Enjoy every moment and don't worry about the small things, because more then likely no one will even notice!
These two are really a sweet couple. I'm so glad we were able to find a farm to use for our session. It was a perfect day and we were able to get amazing portraits! The light was just sick. Sick means awesome here. So pretty and sparking! Michael is a great sport and Rebecca is so sweet. I hope Mom doesn't freak out too much about all the kissing, er, snuggling... (inside joke!) Thanks Michael and Rebecca for being amazing!
Being 4 is pretty fun. Especially when you are as pretty as Alexis! I had a great time photographing her and her lovely parents recently. I've been loving the beautiful spring weather!
One of the biggest excuses I hear about why people do not have family portrait is "We don't have time." When is the right time? It's kind of like what people say about having kids "If you wait until you can afford them, you'll never have them." Kind of anyway. What I am saying is that you never will have a right time to do portraits. But how would you feel tomorrow if you couldn't do them? Unfortunately, that happens too often. People wait and someone is lost before you ever had the chance.
Take the Miller Family for example. This is my sister and her husband and in-laws. Her husband Jason will be leaving for Afganistan too soon. His sweet mom has had some health problems. So, despite all their busy schedules, and trying to coordinate lives of three households, we made it work and got this done. If they can do it, you can do it too. :)
I love meeting new people! But when people are as good looking, funny and creative as Theresa and Bryce it's even more fun! When talking to Theresa about the engagement session I asked her about the things they like to do and how we can incorporate their personality into their session. Theresa explained that they like beer. Well, who doesn't like beer, right? So, we started our session at my favorite beer joint, Monks House of Ale Repute. They have like 5000 kind of beer there. So, if you are a beer person, go there. Last time I was there, I partaked (partook? whatever...) in the Raspberry Ale, and it was delicious. A little too delicious. Oops. Anyway, we started off at Monks. After a few photos inside and a few beers for Bryce, we headed out. It was a gloomy and cloudy day and I was worried all day it was going to rain. Well, Theresa had an umbrella. A yellow one in fact. Turns out Theresa and Bryce are huge How I Met Your Mother fans. There's an entire storyline involving a yellow umbrella and Ted and Robin.. and it's a long story, but you can read about it here.
And then there is a Blue French horn, another Ted and Robin reference. I only catch episodes here and there, but I am pretty sure I need to buy the DVD set now and watch it.
Here they are... So cute!
Anyway, Theresa and Bryce are super cute, super fun and I cannot wait for their wedding!
Sweet Jordan came in for his six months portraits. He's so happy and sweet.

Cute sweet baby Owen!
My sweet baby boy is already 8. He has lost most of his teeth and has big buck teeth right now that I just adore. I think he's so cute in them! He currently loves basketball, wrestling and football. He loves watching football with his Dad and cheering on those poor Minnesota Vikings. He loves Gogurt. He always steals my phone to plan Angry Birds. He hates wearing a coat. He doesn't like to take baths, but loves getting dirty. He smiles a lot. He's mostly happy all the time. He is usually sweet, and he is always going to be my little boy. <3
We had this party a few weeks back at the Skyforce game. It was pretty awesome. At the end of the night he asked if next year he could have his party there too. Parents, it's a great deal too. No clean up! Plus, in comparison to other birthday party hosts, it's very inexpensive. Call Kyle at the Skyforce office to book a party!
I was pleased to meet sweet little Aisley a few weeks back. She was a doll and slept our whole session. <3
One of the most amazing parts of my job is the people I get to meet. I do some work for the Skyforce, and when they asked me to photograph their military night I didn't hesitate. My husband was Airborne in the Army, my brother in law is getting ready to serve his second tour in Afganistan, and countless friends and family are military. Of course I would photograph their military night. When I got there, it was explained to me that a special ceremony would be happening at half time. I asked a few questions and just went on with the night. I did not realize that I would be photographing one of only two living recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest honor bestowed in the military. The Congressional Medal of honor is given to those who distinguish themselves through "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States." It's a very, very big deal.
Governor Dennis Dugaard would be presenting Sergeant First Class Leroy Petry an award. Also, dozens of brand new recruits would be sworn into duty.
Sgt. Petry was injured in Afganistan in 2008. This is the story he told on David Letterman. Watch this and meet a true hero.
This link will take you to the Army website that shows diagrams and a great explanation of the events. Sgt. Petry
There really are not words to describe the awesomeness of this event. Thank you to the men and women of our military.
